Corcoran Gallery of Art

Along with a successful summer program, Corcoran has new sessions for preschoolers, a new location, and new classes. Camp Creativity is the Corcoran's summer camp for kids ages 3-16. In this series of weeklong workshops, campers explore traditional subjects such as painting, drawing, and sculpture, as well as non-traditional processes such as cartooning, mixed media and web design.Kid Pan Alley takes place during the final session of Camp Creativity, August 11 to 16. Campers work with song-writing staff combining music and art in their creative endeavors. Students must attend camp for the full-day.
Sessions begin June 30 and end August 15 with full-day, mornings-only (9 a.m. to noon), or afternoons-only (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) options. One location, Capitol Hill Day School, ends at 4 p.m. Depending on the program, tuition begins at $220 ($210 members) for half-day sessions.

Dumbarton House
Dumbarton House is an historic Federal Period home, built around 1800. Today it is a museum with the mission of preserving and educating the public about life in Washington, DC during the early years of the Republic.
Dumbarton House offers a wide range of programming for children ages 4 to 14. They help cook and sample snacks and drinks from the past, perform early American and African American dances, experiment with making music, paint watercolor portraits and landscapes, try on period clothing and more!

International Spy House
Each day at Spy Camp is filled with top secret briefings and activities that will put spy skills and street smarts to the test. Aspiring KidSpy® recruits will hone their tradecraft, learn from real "spies", and train for future missions. Develop a disguise for cover, make and break codes, discover escape and evasion techniques, create and use spy gadgets. No grownups allowed!
The first of two weeklong sessions runs from July 27 to July 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second session runs August 3 to August 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Agents age 10 to 13, only. Tuition is $415 ($395 members).

Smithsonian Summer Camp
June 22-August 21. The Smithsonian has something for everyone. Where else can campers discover what it's like to blast into space or take center stage, to create a masterpiece, relive American history or learn how to shape our future?
Smithsonian Resident Associates sponsors week-long, full-day summer camp programs for children entering kindergarten through 9th grade in the fall. Weeklong camps range in size from 16 to 21 children, with a camp-to-instructor ratio of 4:1.
Campers explore the Smithsonian's museums, the National Mall, and other regional sites. Camps focus on specific themes such as computer technology, video arts, and exploration of other cultures and outer space.
Before- and after-camp activities are available. Full-day sessions run from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. General admission tuition is $450, $385 for members. Call 202-633-3030 for more information.
Tudor Place
The Tudor Place Foundation operates an historic house and garden in the heart of Washington's Georgetown area. The property, once the home of Martha Washington's granddaughter, is open to the public throughout the year.
This year, Tudor Explorers Summer History Camp runs from August 3-7. The half-day program begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. Tuition is $190 ($175 for members).
Children experience a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that include scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, historic games, dancing, gardening and cooking. Experience an early American Tea Party hosted by campers for their families.

Washington Performing Arts Society
WPAS's summer music programs typically run from late June to early August. Application fees range from $15 to $90 and tuition assistance is available.
Past summer programs included: the Rhythms Camp at Sitar Arts Center, WPAS Capitol Strings Camp, Gospel Vocal Workshop, Capitol Jazz Camp and the Summer Steps with Step Afrika. Most are full-day programs that run from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. They are open to children in grades K-12 (minimum age is 4).
